Past Sermons

Here at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church we are trying new things.  We have started streaming audio with Real Audio Player.  If you don't have a Real Audio player please click here to download the Real Audio player.  Since we only have a limited amount of space on our server, we will only be able to keep 10 to 15 past sermons on the internet.  The old sermons that were typed out are still available.  If you would like a copy of a past sermon that is written or audio please email: Webmaster  We will be glad to email you a copy or make you a tape.

To listen to the Lessons or Sermons.  Please click on the blue text for the Sunday you would like.  The Lessons have the verses printed out underneath them so that you may follow along if you would like.  The top one is the Old Testament, the middle one is the Epistle and the bottom one is the Gospel.

Deserve’s Got Nothin’ To Do With It

September 18, 2005

    Sermon

Matthew 20:1-16 (NIV, NIRV, TNIV, KJV)

Jesus explains how the first shall be last and the last shall be first. What we think we deserve and what we get are vastly different. We receive forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life only by the grace of God.

September 11, 2005

    Sermon

Genesis 50:15-31 and Matthew 18:21-35 (NIV, NIRV, TNIV, KJV)

The story of Joseph, son of Jacob. How he showed forgiveness to his brothers. How we should receive God's forgiveness and let that forgiveness flow through us to others.

Forgiveness

September 4, 2005

    Sermon

Matthew 18:15-20 (NIV, NIRV, TNIV, KJV)

Responsibility and Authority

August 21, 2005

    Sermon

Matthew 16:13-20 (NIV, NIRV, TNIV, KJV)

An examination of the words of Jesus and Peter as set forth in the Gospel. A brief explanation of the Office of the Keys and Confession.

Faith - A Gift from God

August 14, 2005

    Sermon

Matthew 15:21-28 (NIV, NIRV, TNIV, KJV)

The subject of this sermon is the story of the faith demonstrated by the Canaanite woman who approached Jesus for help with her daughter, but the focus is on the love of God that overcomes any adversity despite our personal shortcomings. It tells of our battles against the devil, our world and our flesh, and also our inner wrestling with God Himself as we receive His will in our lives.

All By Myself

August 7, 2005

    Sermon

1 Kings 19:9-19:18 (NIV, NIRV, TNIV, KJV)

The story of Elijah, his success and his fear. His false assumption that he is all alone. How God spoke to him and to us in a gentle whisper. Today we hear the gentle whisper of the Gospel.
